My dear friends at Emmanuel,
Whenever I think of you, I thank God for you and the welcome you always give me it really warms my heart, thank you!
I have been privileged to help you think about the future ministry of Emmanuel and of, so to speak pass the torch of faith on.
Which made me think that recently I was at Uckfield’s Carnival watching the procession of the different Bonfire Societies; all dressed in different costumes from one another but all carrying their flaming torches, helping one another light their new torch flames when their old torch faded and died, when it struck me that we must pass the light of Christ to one another and to others whom we meet. We might belong to different groups or churches, but we carry the light of Christ, so we must pass it on.
In our cynical world, many are more concerned with looking after themselves; as it far easier to focus on ourselves rather than helping others and ourselves find the wonderful love of Jesus Christ so that we all can experience his love, his peace and his guidance in our all too selfish and empty lives.
Or perhaps we can take time to notice someone who needs a friend to walk with them in the dark times or someone who just needs encouraging as they experience times of doubt or disillusionment in their faith and or life, perhaps we can be a help to re-light their God-given fire.
When I came to faith as a teenager a chorus that I used to love singing was called ‘Pass it On’ by Kurt Kaiser that went like this:
“It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and soon all those around can warm up in its glowing. That’s how it is with God’s love once you’ve experienced it; you spread his love to everyone; you want to pass it on” https://youtu.be/OYMmONPtweM
You may think that you have nothing to offer, but your encouragement could make the world of difference to someone today, pass your flame on to someone else!
“For this reason, I remind you to keep alive the gift that God gave you” (2 Timothy 1:6)
“…And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35)
God bless you.
Love from
Andy
