Christian Aid Christian Aid week this year is from 11th, To 17th May, and we’ll be displaying Posters and inviting you to support this charity via envelopes.
As you probably know, Christian Aid is a global organisation and has been in operation for nearly 80 years. The society states: “Our belief that poverty can be ended is based on our understanding of scripture and the work of a creative, loving God… Our hope is founded on God’s promise of a world without poverty, where everyone has life in all its fullness. We therefore believe the world can be restored and transformed, and that God calls us to speak and act prophetically to bring change.”
On looking at the Christian Aid website was intrigued by a particular word: ‘Agroecology’. Apparently it means sustainable farming that applies both ecological and social concepts to the design and management of sustainable food and farming systems.
This got me thinking that as an ‘Eco’ Church we are, to a small extent, following the principles of Christian Aid. Our lovely new building was designed, built and is maintained in an ecologically and sensitive way. We are encouraged to be careful with water consumption, the use of electricity, and disposal of waste. I know that this is very little compared to the principles of Christian Aid, but if we live our own lives in a practical, generous and economical way, and continue to support the charity, then we’ll be making a start.
