I hope that over this summer you’ve had opportunities to enjoy the goodness of creation, whether that be the beauty of your surroundings, or the people that you’ve met and spent time with.
Most of us can’t be described as the most vulnerable to climate change, not yet anyway. But as I write there are reports of serious flooding in Poland and other parts of Europe. A BBC report says “Scientists say that a warmer atmosphere holds more moisture, leading to more intense rainfall. Warmer oceans also lead to more evaporation, feeding storm systems. For every 1°C rise in the global average temperature, the atmosphere is able to hold about 7% more moisture.”
It’s easy to become overwhelmed and think the problem is just too big to be able to address. And yet when we all take small steps of change together, the impact can be huge. This helps those most vulnerable to climate change, who mostly live a long way from us but are also part of God’s creation.
Last month I wrote some ideas about saving water and energy. This month, have a look at the graphic below – the 8 ‘R’s – and consider how you could use these ideas. Perhaps there are things you have ‘re-purposed’ (there’s another ‘R’!) that you’d like to tell others about?
And maybe you’d like to check out a new shop at 35 South Street, next to the Dew Drop Inn. It’s called Little Chelsea Health Store and sells eco-friendly products and zero waste refills (take your own containers to avoid buying more plastic) for a range of products and food.
Next month we hope to have some BIG NEWS about Eco Church, so watch this space!
