A Letter From Eco Worrier Becky

Hello Everyone,

Eco-Worrier Becky here. Worrier, not warrior in case you think have made a typo! Ora Freudian slip. And it is my name have changed it by deed poll! “Why”, hear you ask… because am, and essentially worried about the planet, about climate change, about the future, about my future. Isn’t it difficult living in our world today? Cos we all know that we are heading towards a time bomb of one sort or another. If we avoid the ever- present nuclear threat, and if we manage to control the dangers of AI, then the climate will get us in the end. I mean, our changes to the climate. It is alI our fault! The human race, of which each of us is a part. So, for most of us, there are these depressing thoughts on the one hand but, on the other hand, there is the need to make the most of one’s own small life without sinking for ever into gloom and despondency. So, it’s difficult, innit?

But, I’m a Christian! Ha! A follower of Jesus… And, you’re asking again, “Does that make a difference?” Surely, it makes all the difference in the world…but, then, you know that cos you’re a disciple of Jesus too? God has us all wrapped up in his love and care doesn’t he? We are ultimately safe even if the world blows up. But, whilst he wraps us, he wants us to do what we can doesn’t he?? To do what we can, in our own little world, in our own little ways (or big ways if that is what we are called to), to make a difference in progressing a more sustainable planet. And we can pray, of course, and we should and must, but it is not enough! am doing all can but I need help, we all need help, we need to help each other.. have heard a whisper just a whisper that your church (you do go to Emmanuel, don’t you?) has got a group together to make suggestions, to take action, to get involved in all things Eco. Perhaps the whisper will become a voice, perhaps, perhaps, perhaps..

Well, all the best for now, you may hear from me again (you may not), but let’s take action together whatever happens,

ECO-WORRIER BECKY

P.S. am reading a really good book at the moment. OK, so it’s a kid’s book but its informative and helpful but it has pictures and clear print and not too much on any one page. ‘100 things to know about Saving the Planet’ published by Usborne. Oh! I just looked it up on good old Google and from the shops that recycle other people’s books (a great idea for sustainability) it only costs 3 or 4 pounds. I read one or two of the things’ each night before go to sleep, let you know how get on with it.
