Eco Friendly Holidays

As part of our church commitment to achieve the Silver Eco Church award we need to be demonstrating that as individual members we are taking steps in our own lives to reduce our carbon footprint and care for God’s creation.

Maybe in these cold days you are dreaming about and planning where to go on holiday this year? If you are fortunate enough to be able to take a holiday, have you considered how you can make it as environmentally friendly as possible?

Air travel is the fastest-growing contributor to climate change, and avoiding a flight when there are easy (and more enjoyable) alternatives is one of the single biggest things an individual can do to reduce their impact on the environment. Taking the train instead of flying cuts your CO2 emissions by a staggering 84% to 90% (depending on which research you read. Whichever, it’s a huge reduction! We’re taking the train to Holland this year to visit relatives and friends, avoiding the hassles of airport waiting times and making a more environmentally conscious choice. Please have a look at this link if you’re planning your next holiday, it might give you some ideas.

Do let one of the Emmanuel Eco Church group know if you change your plans away from flying as we’d love to celebrate that and record it for our Silver award. The Eco Church group is currently Paul Tabraham, Jacqui Horton, Gordon Harrison, Matthew Earl, Jenny Potter and Stephen Brown.

Happy (eco-friendly) holiday planning!
