Campaign: Eco Church Bronze Award

THE ECO CHURCH AWARD : CARING FOR GOD’S CREATION

The Eco Church award is a scheme that encourages churches to celebrate and enrich their care for God’s earth. It covers five key areas: Worship and teaching; Buildings; Land; Community and global engagement; and Lifestyle.

We’re encouraged in the Bible to be good stewards of creation. The award recognises that caring for the environment is entirely consistent with our faith. It challenges us to adopt eco-friendly practices in all aspects of church and personal life.

We’re delighted to report that Emmanuel is already meeting or exceeding the standards in the first 3 categories to qualify for the Bronze Eco Church award. Where we need to focus more energy is on the final two areas of Community engagement and Lifestyle. We have a number of ideas of how we can be more intentional in these areas.

We’d like to look at how we can further reduce our waste, and improve re-use and recycling. Something as simple as using a reusable water bottle instead of buying plastic ones makes a difference.

What ideas do you have for living more sustainably? We’d love everyone to get involved by sharing practical tips and stories. Let’s pool our knowledge, have fun exploring new ideas together and continue our journey of caring for God’s wonderful creation.

Please send your tips in for the next magazine.
