Eastbourne COP26 March

Six members of Emmanuel Church joined protesters in the town centre as part of the global day of action on Saturday 6th November, coinciding with the COP26 summit in Glasgow.

The event was organised by the Eastbourne COP26 Coalition, a civil society coalition made up of groups and individuals from various organisations. It started at Bankers Corner at noon and wound its way through Terminus Road and Seaside Road to the seafront where it turned back towards the Western Lawns. Many passers-by stopped to applaud the marchers and although there were not as many participants as might have been expected, those who came made up for it with plenty of noise chanting slogans! The march finished at 2.00 at the Western Lawns where there were speeches and entertainment, including a lone piper. An impassioned speech by a very young girl made us all realise how much the actions of today impact on younger generations. It was a loud, colourful event with a serious message at heart:

WHAT DO WE WANT? CLIMATE JUSTICE! WHEN DO WE WANT IT? NOW!
