Daily Devotion 24 July 2020

Create a peaceful space to pause, and allow yourself to feel God’s presence alongside you, as near to you as your own breath. In following the reflection below, as a church we will draw closer to God and to one another as we grow in faith and deepen our sense of belonging to God.

Mark 10:23-27 ‘God’s Impossibilities’

23 Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, ‘How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!’ 24 And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, ‘Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.’ 26 They were greatly astounded and said to one another, ‘Then who can be saved?’ 27 Jesus looked at them and said, ‘For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.’

God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see, he will make a way for me.

Dear brothers and sisters, peace be with you all. You know the hymn I mentioned, written by Don Moen. it is very true for me and I am pretty much sure that it is also true for you. God is a God of miracles. The Bible is full of God’s miraculous works. Let me ask you a question: what is your favourite miracle from the Old Testament?

My favourite one, right from my childhood is one of the greatest miracles of the entire Bible, parting of the Red Sea. I saw a movie, ‘The Ten Commandments’, in my primary Catholic school and I knew Moses as Charlton Heston. God chose Moses to be his prophet to lead His nation the escape from Egypt, God gave him His Law, and he shepherded the children of Israel to the gates of the Promised Land. (Read Hebrews 11:23-29/Acts 7:20-45). You will be amazed to read the narratives about Moses, I just want you to know that the King Pharaoh tried his best to kill Moses but God saved him in a miraculous way to lead His nation Israelites to get out from Egypt.

God has a special plan for each one of us. In all situations and circumstances, we just need to rely on Him, He is Omniscient and able to do miracle even today, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Prayer:

God beyond our imagining, creator, lover, empowerer, persuader,
help us to see the possibilities, to go on searching your inexhaustible, stunning universe,
till our minds are stretched, and our hearts filled, by the wonder of your love
and we see that for you, nothing is impossible, and for us much is possible.
Then come, Lord, take our hands and lead us to do your work,
where your name is known, and where your name is not known,
because you are love, and we must care indiscriminately. Amen.
