Daily Devotion 23 July 2020

Create a peaceful space to pause, and allow yourself to feel God’s presence alongside you, as near to you as your own breath. In following the reflection below, as a church we will draw closer to God and to one another as we grow in faith and deepen our sense of belonging to God.

Psalm 89:1-14 ‘God’s Covenant’

1 I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, for ever;
with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
2 I declare that your steadfast love is established for ever;
your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
3 You said, ‘I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to my servant David:
4 “I will establish your descendants for ever, and build your throne for all generations.”
5 Let the heavens praise your wonders,
O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones.
6 For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord?
Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord,
7 a God feared in the council of the holy ones,
great and awesome above all that are around him?
8 O Lord God of hosts, who is as mighty as you, O Lord?
Your faithfulness surrounds you.
9 You rule the raging of the sea;
when its waves rise, you still them.
10 You crushed Rahab like a carcass;
you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
11 The heavens are yours, the earth also is yours;
the world and all that is in it – you have founded them.
12 The north and the south – you created them;
Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.
13 You have a mighty arm;
strong is your hand, high your right hand.
14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
steadfast love and faithfulness go before you..

Meditation:
Loving God, colour’s all around us…
in the rainbow,
in the beauty of our natural world,
in the year’s changing seasons.
Everywhere we look, there’s colour.
Some colours are bright and cheerful;
they bring an instant response,
they lift our hearts
and bring a smile to our faces.
Some colours are more subdued,
harder to distinguish.
They make us think more deeply,
taking time to reflect on the purpose of life.
At times colours are dark and heavy,
a reminder of sadness…
despair…
violence…
the stormy areas of life.
We need each colour
to appreciate the other.
Dark clouds have their bright lining,
seen only from above.
It is your light, Lord,
which shines into our world
and into our lives
highlighting colour
and bringing hope in the darkness.
Thank you, God, for colour. Amen.
